Do the Minnesota Vikings have the best stadium in the entire NFL?

When it comes to professional sports, every team is battling for bragging rights. Whether that’s having the best overall roster or having the most hardware in their trophy cases, squads want to stick it to their 31 counterparts.

On Wednesday, the Minnesota Vikings were in a braggadocios mood, as they sent out a tweet to say that their stadium is the best in the NFL. No, this wasn’t a baseless claim to rile up everyone on social media. Rather, they revealed that US Bank Stadium was ranked the best in the league in a recent poll by The Athletic’s group of NFL reporters.

The Vikings have facts to back their claim.

The Athletic had its 31 NFL reporters fill out a ballot on the top home field residences of all 32 teams. US Bank Stadium ended up on 23 of the 31 ballots and received seven first-place votes to earn the title of the best stadium. The Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs all followed the Vikings in the top-five.

While Lambeau Field, home of the Vikings’ bitter NFC North rivals, received ten first-place votes, it didn’t receive more top-five ballots than Minnesota’s US Bank Stadium, Seattle’s CenturyLink Field, and Dallas’ AT&T Stadium. Hence why they dropped to fourth-place.

US Bank Stadium opened up in 2016 two years after the roof of the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome literally collapsed. Prior to the new stadium opening, the Vikings were forced to play at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Field for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. The Vikings’ state of the art stadium is made of transparent glass, which makes it feel as though the team is playing out in the bitter cold in the North. But they aren’t!

In its four short years of existence, US Bank Stadium featured two of the NFL’s most historic games. The first game was the Vikings’ 2017 NFC Divisional Round victory over the New Orleans Saints which was dubbed “The Minneapolis Miracle.” The second happened three weeks later, as underdog quarterback Nick Foles conquered the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII to give the Philadelphia Eagles their first-ever Lombardi Trophy.
