These 5 teams will make the College Football Playoff soon

One day soon, Texas will be back and it’s going to be amazing.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. For the Texas Longhorns to be back, it’s incredibly simple really. They must win the Big 12 and make the College Football Playoff. No, they don’t have to win a national title or even play for a championship, they just need to get to the playoff, as that’s all their arch-rival Oklahoma Sooners have shown to be capable of in the last five years.

While Oklahoma is going away anytime soon under fourth-year head coach Lincoln Riley, we have a good feeling the Longhorns will start to turn this around under head coach Tom Herman. He already has a Sugar Bowl victory over the Georgia Bulldogs two years ago. Getting to a conference title bout and playing in a New Year’s Six bowl in one thing, but reaching the playoff is another.

Texas has a ton of talent in-state. Should Herman and his staff be able to capitalize on it and not let top SEC programs or Oklahoma come in and poach all of the Lone Star State’s top talent, Texas will have the horses to compete with anyone on a major stage. While it may take the USC Trojans a few years to punch their ticket in, Texas is one of a handful of teams who can get it done in 2020.

Admittedly, Texas shouldn’t be the first or even second choice to reach the playoff for the first time this season, even if they have Sam Ehlinger at quarterback entering his senior year. The Big 12 belongs to Oklahoma and the Longhorns will have to change that, as well as hold off feisty competitions like the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Iowa State Cyclones. Texas isn’t yet back.
