Tobias Harris uses media availability to make a statement on Breonna Taylor.

Philadelphia 76ers’ Tobias Harris had his time in front of the media today and he made that time count. Harris stepped in front of the camera and spoke for just 59 seconds but what he said speaks volumes.

“We want to make sure that Daniel Cameron will arrest the cops and the officers involved with Breonna Taylor’s death and that’s all I got to say.”

The clip was shared by Serena Winters.

Who is Breonna Taylor?

The issue he was raising awareness of has sparked national attention and helped to invigorate the Black Lives Matter movement. The man he mentions by name is the Kentucky Attorney General who he feels should arrest the officers involved in the killing of EMT Breonna Taylor.

Taylor was killed in early March when Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove opened fire while working on a no-knock warrant. The officers were in plainclothes and opened fired when Taylor’s boyfriend fired, thinking they were intruders.

Taylor was shot eight times and the officers fired 20 bullets.

Many have called for the arrest of the officers after multiple inaccuracies were discovered. On May 21, Police Chief Steve Conrad retired and Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer suspended the use of no-knock warrants in May. No arrests have been made.

This issue, along with the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police, has caused the NBA to offer players a way to offer tribute to these men and women in the form of pre-approved social justice messages printed on their jerseys.
