FanSided talked with Tosca Musk ahead of the release of Gabriel’s Inferno Part 2.

Hot on the heels of the first installment of Gabriel’s Inferno Part 1, Passionflix founder and CEO Tosca Musk talks to FanSided about the movie’s highly anticipated second installment coming out July 31. She also talked about some of the challenges facing the entertainment industry when it comes to filming during the pandemic, and she teased quite a few juicy details about what fans can expect in Gabriel’s Inferno Part 2 and 3.

An avid reader herself, Musk has been a champion of romance novels and building an inclusive community of fans who embrace the genre without caving into the negative stigmas that often accompany it. Gone are the days of brawny, bare-chested men who look like Fabio in an I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter commercial gracing the covers of sultry supermarket paperbacks. Today’s romance novels feature strong, intelligent women who know what they want and don’t need to wait to be rescued, and that’s something that should be celebrated, not mocked.

As a company, Musk’s Passionflix embraces stories with strong and empowered women and elevates them so that the cinematic versions are faithful to the source material. As fans of the romance genre themselves, the Passionflix team understands what readers want and their movies end up being everything that fans could ever want, and then some.

Case in point: Sylvain Reynard’s Gabriel Series. The first book to become a movie in the series, Gabriel’s Inferno starring Melanie Zanetti and Giulio Berruti, will be made in three parts so as to preserve the integrity and details of Reynard’s breathtaking novel. The first installment arrived in May 2020, serving up a much-needed distraction for fans sheltering in place amid the pandemic.

During our conversation, Musk talked about the challenges of filming in the middle of a pandemic. The new safety rules, while good-intentioned, make it difficult to film things like stunts and sex scenes. She said that the Screen Actors Guild reviews all scripts to determine whether or not a script will place actors in situations of undue risk.

If there are too many stunts that require close contact or lots of close face-to-face interaction, or if there are too many kisses in a script, SAG will request a revision. The only way to preserve the script is to wait and film when the restrictions are lifted — or at the very least ease up — in the future.

Musk noted that Gabriel’s Inferno Part 2 will clock in at just under two hours, making it slightly shorter than the first movie, and that the third movie will arrive later in the year. While Part 2 was closer to being completed when filming shut down back in March, Part 3 still needs some work and will need more time before it’s ready.

She also provided an update on the soundtrack to accompany the movies, indicating that the plan is to roll out a soundtrack featuring music from all three movies. They’re close, but not quite ready yet.

Most notably, though, Musk admitted that whenever the Passionflix team needs to take a break, they have been turning to Part 2 to keep them occupied. Evidently, it’s a great movie to watch over and over again and that’s sure to be welcome news for Reynard’s eager fans.
