DraftKings NBA picks July 31: Giannis will dominate Disney World
By Mike Marteny
DraftKings NBA forward plays:
I’d prioritize Giannis over anyone buy Luka. If you tinker enough, it’s possible to get both of them in one lineup. Guard is loaded with options on the cheap. Giannis should be in at least half your lineups tonight. Luka should be in the other half.
I like the idea of running Luka at SF due to the dearth of options. I want to see Gordon Hayward and THJ prove something first before I go paying that kind of money. Tatum struggled against Milwaukee earlier this year.
If you’re going to spend that kind of money, do it for DeRozan. Aldridge is nowhere in sight and DeRozan is about the only accomplished scorer on the team.
There are a ton of traps in the middle tier at forward. THJ is always a trap. So is Melo, especially with Portland healthy up front. I’d much rather go with Mikal Bridges filling in for Oubre. Troy Brown could be in for a huge workload for Washington as well.
Speaking of Washington, Jerome Robinson has been a huge part of the offense during the restart. He’s well worth his price tag, especially if you play on paying up elsewhere. Danuel House has my eye with Eric Gordon out as well.
Things get a little sticky up front now. The main thing to note is that Porzingis, Jusuf Nurkic, Allen, Holmes, Jaren Jackson, and Zach Collins are all healthy. All of them were at the very least nursing minor injuries when the season stopped.
We saw Luka and Porzingis work well together once they got going. It may take a bit to get that chemistry working again. I much prefer Nikola Vucevic against the Nets if paying up in the middle.
Deandre Ayton is another superb option against Washington. Truth be told, I have my eye on the other side more. Thomas Bryant is completely healthy and can dominate in the few minutes that he plays.
Nurkic has looked solid on his leg that he broke about 14 months ago. If you watched that game, you remember what I’m talking about. I like him a lot, but Portland is still going to limit his minutes. I would much rather use Jarrett Allen with Jordan not around.
Bagley and Len are both out. That means a hearty workload for both Harry Giles and Richaun Holmes. I’m a huge fan of both against the Spurs without LMA. Jaren Jackson is another lock for me at his price. If the scrimmages are any indication, the knee is fine.
If you’re feeling froggy, you can run Jakob Poeltl at the Kings depleted front, but keep in mind that we haven’t seen much of anything from him either. Tyler Zeller is the dark horse for the Spurs up front.
Speaking of value, in this large of a GPP, 6x value isn’t even likely to win you the top prize. You’re going to need 7x. Where do you get it among starters? Luka and Harden have the highest ceilings, but Giannis is far more consistent. Build whichever way suits your lineup style.
