Sabrina Ionescu rolls ankle, leaves game

Sabrina Ionescu suffered an injury Friday night.

Sabrina Ionescu became a legend at the University of Oregon and was the No. 1 overall pick by the New York Liberty in this year’s WNBA Draft. She dropped 12 points in her debut and got back to her old ways with 33 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in only her second career WNBA game.

The new Liberty star is a special player and watching her rise to stardom will be a fun journey. That is why fans may have been concerned when she left the court with an injury Friday night in only her third career game.

Sabrina Ionescu leaves with an injury

The injury occurred when Ionescu stepped on an opposing player’s foot. Her ankle rolled and that is never good news for a basketball player. The scary part of the scene was that she could not put weight on the ankle when leaving the court.

The WNBA is also using a bubble to play a season and Ionescu making her debut was one of the most exciting aspects of the return to play. Now the focus shifts toward making sure she is doing alright and did not suffer a serious injury.

Hoping she is just fine is all fans can really do at this point. Ankle injuries are seen all the time so that is something that provides some hope. However, losing Ionescu for any amount of time would be terrible for the Liberty and for the league in general.

Leaving the floor without putting any pressure on the ankle was not a great sign. Yet we are talking about a rising legend of the game, so hopefully this is nothing more than a scare during her rookie season.
