Betting odds for UFC Vegas 5: Derek Brunson vs. Edmen Shahbazyan.
The UFC returns to the Apex facility this Saturday for UFC Vegas 5: Derek Brunson vs. Edmen Shahbazyan. Originally set to be the main event, Holly Holm vs. Irene Aldana was cancelled due to Aldana testing positive for coronavirus. Brunson vs. Shahbazyan is now the main event, with Calderwood vs. Maia serving as the new co-main event.
Although being ranked higher and having more experience than his opponent, Brunson finds himself a significant betting underdog, with the oddsmakers putting him at +260. On the flip side, Shahbazyan is the steep favorite at -340. This could be a changing of the guard type fight if Shahbazyan can get past Brunson. Shahbazyan is currently undefeated at 11-0 and is coming off a knockout victory over Brad Tavares. The 22-year-old has impressed since he stepped into the Octagon, and a win this weekend could catapult him into a matchup with a top-5 middleweight.
Due to undisclosed reasons, Timur Valiev, Ray Borg and Eric Spicely have all been forced off the card. The replacements are Vince Cachero and Johnny Munoz. Spicely vs. Perez has been cancelled after an appropriate replacement could not be found in time.
For those unfamiliar with betting odds, they are easiest understood by assuming each bet is $100. For example, if a bettor chooses Brunson at +260, that means a $100 bet would return $260 if he wins. On the flip side, if one were to bet Shahbazyan at -340, a $340 bet would be needed in order to win $100 should Shahbazyan come away victorious.
