The St. Louis Cardinals have had 13 members of their organization test positive for the coronavirus over the last week.

It’s been a week to forget for the St. Louis Cardinals. The team has seen an outbreak of the coronavirus hit the clubhouse, with it being reported 13 members of the organization have tested positive.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals came out and announced that six of those 13 to test positive are players, with the list including catcher and fan-favorite player Yadier Molina.

Molina is joined on the list by Paul DeJong, Junior Fernandez, Rangel Ravelo, Edmundo Sosa and Kodi Whitley for players who received rough news and gave the team consent to release the info.

“I am saddened to have tested positive for COVID-19, even after adhering to the safety guidelines that were put into place,” Molina said via the team statement. “I will do everything within my power to return as soon as possible for Cardinals fans, the city of St. Louis and my teammates. As I recover, I request that you please respect my privacy and my family in my absence from the team.”

The latest update of the six Cardinals players testing positive comes after reports recently surfaced saying that several St. Louis players broke league rules and protocols and went to a casino prior to the team experiencing its outbreak.

The Cardinals of course aren’t the only organization to be hit with terrible news like this, with games being postponed left and right due to clubs battling the coronavirus.

Over the weekend, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred even said the rest of the season could be canceled if cases within organizations continue to rise. It goes without saying, but the latest announcement from St. Louis is a major cause or concern.
