Christian Yelich hit the world’s most generous inside-the-park home run

We know Yelich has been struggling so far this season, but the former NL MVP and batting champion doesn’t need this much help. The Brewers star entered the day hitting under .100 through nine games, and while it’s early, that’s nearly one-sixth through a shortened MLB season. The time to turn things around is now, and Yelich is doing just that thanks to Eloy Jimenez.

Now, who knows what kind of favor Jimenez owed Yelich, but he’s more than paid his debt after this blunder. Jimenez took a unique route to a fairly routine fly ball that hung up in the Chicago wind just a bit too long.

Is this what finally sparks Yelich?

The Brewers certainly hope this gets Yelich going, as they currently sit in a solid second place in the NL Central at 4-5, several games behind the Chicago Cubs. With Lorenzo Cain opting out of the season, and having lost Mike Moustakas and Yasmani Grandal this offseason, this version of the Brew Crew looks a little lacking compared to the 2018 and 2019 teams which made the NL playoffs.

As for the White Sox, this is far from the first time fans have groaned at Jimenez’s growing pains in the outfield. Such are the expectations with a young team, and despite all of their promise in the NL Central, Jimenez’s flaws are a reminder that potential has to be fulfilled. In a shortened season, anything is possible, but there’s a reason pundits believe they’re a notch below the Twins and Indians in the Central, and that’s experience.

Don’t be surprised if this springs a hot streak for arguably the best hitter in the National League.
