Bills defensive back Tre’Davious White has a message for fans calling him out over his potential opt-out

For star Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White, the 25-year-old defensive back is facing a tough decision. White, one of the best corners in the AFC, is currently on the fence as to whether or not he’ll be playing this season due to major concerns surrounding the coronavirus.

Should he decide to sit the campaign out, he’d no doubt be the biggest name to opt-out of playing thus far. While White has been thinking things over, he’s also unfortunately been showered with plenty of hate from fans.

White decided to fire back at those said fans, posting an emotional message to them on his Twitter account.

Tre’Davious White is to this date the biggest NFL name considering sitting out the season over coronavirus concerns

White did not hold back whatsoever, saying, “Crazy that me choosing my family’s wellbeing over a game comes with so-called fans attacking and questioning me and saying I’m selfish. No you guys are selfish for thinking that football is bigger than life. Oh by the way my girl’s grandfather passed from COVID. U understand now?”

White’s girlfriend’s grandpa passed away from the coronavirus, which he’s taking into consideration leading up to his big decision. Since last month, we’ve seen multiple NFL players decide to opt-out, with Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif being the first one to do so.

This obviously is not an easy decision for White, a player who has emerged as a true defensive superstar. Last season, the standout posted 58 tackles and six interceptions, earning him Pro Bowl honors.

Should White decide to not play this season, it’d be a massive blow for the Bills. At the same time, he’s asking fans to be understanding while he goes through this process, which is certainly one of the toughest decisions he’s had to make in his young career.
