Toronto Blue Jays. Ken Giles. 1.. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. RP. 39

Yes, we’re going back to bullpen help. Last trade deadline, Ken Giles was a hot commodity for playoff contending teams in need of a solid closer. It looked like the Toronto Blue Jays were ready to pull the trigger and flip Giles to a new team, but he was diagnosed with a right forearm strain.

This season, Giles hasn’t performed up to snuff (10.80 ERA, three strikeouts, 1.2 innings pitched), but he’s only appeared in two games due to the Blue Jays’ inability to enter the ninth inning with a lead. But it’s hard to gloss over Giles statistics last year, where he accumulated a 1.87 ERA and 86 strikeouts over 53 innings pitched.

To make matters better for the Cubs, Giles is a free agent at the end of the season. The Blue Jays don’t appear to be a playoff team this year, as they sit behind the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East standings. The Cubs can easily swing a deal and get their certified closer for the remainder of the 2020 campaign.
