2B. Jonathan Schoop. 2. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Detroit Tigers. 63

While the Tigers have gotten off to a much better start than most anticipated, the lack of depth might eventually doom them and force them to once again turn into sellers near the deadline. Considering that he’s a free agent at the end of the season, Schoop might be one of the more likely players Detroit ends up giving away. The Phillies’ mighty infield has come out completely flat in 2020, save for Didi Gregorius, and adding Schoop might be able to give that group the shot in the arm they need.

Scott Kingery has been penciled in as the every-day second baseman, and he has been a complete failure, managing just four hits in 40 at-bats so far. Schoop would start immediately if Klentak gets this deal done, as his 2020 stat line of a .254 average and four home runs is much more pleasing to the eye than Kingery’s .100 average. A former All-Star who became one of the game’s best offensive second basemen with the Baltimore Orioles, Schoop can hit near the top of the order and put a charge into the ball when he’s hot.
