The Washington Wizards remain stubborn as all hell to move Bradley Beal, which makes some sense: He’s only 27 years old, just averaged 30.5 points per game this year and is under contract for at least two more seasons, with a $37.3 million player option for the third.

But a healthy John Wall won’t suddenly transform this young team back into playoff contenders, and the Wizards should be thinking about igniting their inevitable rebuild as soon as the right offer materializes. A No. 2 overall draft pick is a pretty great place to start.

Though Andrew Wiggins’ ugly contract still has another three years on it, that’s the price rebuilding teams pay to add extra draft assets. This year’s No. 2 pick — plus a lottery-protected first-rounder in 2022 — is pretty good compensation for that, especially if rookie standout Eric Paschall is attached.

For the Dubs, they’d be getting a versatile combo guard who’s just as effective off the ball as he is on it. In this position-less NBA, the Dubs can squeeze him into the starting lineup with the Splash Brothers and Draymond, whether it’s with a traditional 5 like Kevon Looney or as part of a small-ball lineup with Green at center. A core of Curry-Beal-Klay-Green would be downright unfair and is more than worth what they’re giving up, even at the cost of some depth.
