The Houston Rockets are honoring the late Kobe Bryant

The tributes to Kobe Bryant continue to pour in Monday on what is known as “Mamba Day.” The calendar reads 8/24 and it is a day to remember Bryant, and his daughter Gianna, as the NBA playoffs continue with a full slate of games.

Members of the Houston Rockets decided to don some clothes pregame to honor the man who was an idol and a mentor to so many in the game of basketball.

Rockets players have Bryant on the mind

The variety of Bryant-themed clothing shows that Mamba Day did not creep up on anyone. Russell Westbrook having a Bryant No. 8 jersey with him in the Orlando bubble likely means he has been waiting to bring it out.

This is essentially a two-day tribute as Sunday would have been Bryant’s 42nd birthday. This being the first postseason without him around feels strange and it is right of the NBA and the players to honor his memory in this fashion.

Seeing all the different fashion choices featuring Bryant is fun as well. Westbrook is not playing in Monday’s Game 4 against the Oklahoma City Thunder so he is rocking his Bryant jersey on the sidelines. There are no real dress code rules in the bubble and telling a player he couldn’t wear the No. 8 Los Angeles Lakers jersey would not be received well anyway.

The tributes will be seen all day and it will be fascinating to see how individual players choose to honor the late Bryant. This is a rare Mamba Day where NBA games are actually being played.
