DFS PGA: 2020 BMW Championship Picks and Analysis

The Fedex Cup is in full swing and continues this week at the 2020 BMW Championship! Dustin Johnson got hot at the right time and took home the hardware at The Northern Trust. The course looked beautiful, the golf was entertaining, and it all culminated in me being really pumped to see how this FedEx Final is going to play out.

I also am amazed at how good Dustin Johnson was. There only a select number of golfers in the world that have ever been that dominant in a tournament. His game was on and he knew it. He is a competitor. The win means a lot, but I would not be surprised if he is grinding, shooting for another W at the 2020 BMW Championship.

The PGA Tour and the Fedex Cup moves from Boston to Chicago for the 2020 BMW Championship at Olympia Fields CC plays host to a PGA Tour event. The course has hosted 2 US Opens and 2 PGA Championships.

Of note, Jim Furyk won the 2003 US Open at Olympia Fields CC and Bryson DeChambeau won the US Amateur at Olympia Fields in 2015.

Olympia FIelds Country Club is a beast, playing 7,400 yards as a par 70. Scoring will be difficult to come by this week. Furyk won at -8 in 2003, while the winner of the ladies championship played in 2017 shot a -13. Look for a score around -10 to take the week.

The tree-lined fairways will keep the bombers in check, but bombing is definitely a big advantage. I think that long irons are even a bigger advantage this week, as guys will have a lot of those opportunities. Overgrown oak trees, changes in elevation, and wondering creek hazards play into the difficulty of this course.

We stay with Bentgrass again this week, which is a huge advantage to the golfers who are familiar with the surface. What I will put a lot of emphases this week is  Par-5 scoring, driving accuracy, approach, and bentgrass putting.

Field note: There are only 70 golfers in the field this week. There is no cut this week.
