A lot has been asked of Jason Peters this offseason, and he wants some financial gain to come with that

After the season-ending injury to left tackle Andre Dillard, the Eagles are exploring all of their options. One of those, thankfully, is moving Jason Peters back to his original position. While Peters had been asked to move over to right guard, Philly’s circumstances on the offensive line puts them in an unfortunate spot. Doug Pederson wouldn’t commit to moving Peters back, and that’s likely because it could come with an added financial commitment from the front office.

“Jason Peters is obviously in the conversation,” Pederson said. “We do have some young players, Jordan Mailata, Matt Pryor. Jack Driscoll, who’s a [fourth-round] rookie, obviously, but has been playing some tackle for us.”

If Doug Pederson is being honest with himself, Peters is the best option for a team desperate to keep Carson Wentz healthy

Pryor isn’t a bad backup plan should Peters remain at guard, and he reportedly spent time with the first team at LT during practice after Dillard’s injury.

Peters’ contract includes incentives that could help him reach $6 million on his one-year deal. Very few, if any, of those incentives will be reached from the tackle position, and Peters knows that. This is why Howie Roseman owes a meeting to Peters’ agent should they opt to go with the safer choice on Wentz’s blind side.

“JP’s done an outstanding job, coming in and playing the right guard spot,” Pederson said. “We’re going to continue to look at him there as well. But we have some options. We’ve got a couple of days here before roster cuts and getting into the regular season.”

The Eagles still have a few weeks before their Week 1 game against Washington. Such an important decision doesn’t have to be made on the fly, but ought to come in the next few days.
