NBA DFS picks August 29: Are three heads better than one?
By Mike Marteny
NBA DFS forward plays:
Giannis is a sure 60. He’s hit that mark in every game in the series. However, he has not topped 66 fantasy points. Still, with Westbrook back and a Lakers blowout a very likely scenario, Giannis is the only safe high-priced option.
If we are removing The Brow from center consideration, Nikola Vucevic is easily the next best option. I can make a strong case for Nurkic on FanDuel, but on DraftKings the price is much closer and Vucevic is capable of being the second-highest fantasy scorer on the slate. Nurkic isn’t.
Jusuf Nurkic could be an interesting pick here. He’ll be leaned on to take some of the load off of CJ on the offensive end. For the first time this series, I find myself at least considering Nurkic. I will limit exposure though.
The three-headed guard monster has taken over in Oklahoma City. That doesn’t leave much left for Gallinari. His ceiling is lower with Schroder around and the price is too high for him to get us the 6-7x value needed to try and take a GPP down.
The fact that Steven Adams and Jeff Green are more expensive that Brook Lopez on DraftKings is laughable. Green probably has more upside, but his floor is scary. Lopez is a solid option for the price, but I wouldn’t use him in GPP formats. He has very little upside.
Danuel House has more than 30 fantasy points in each of the last three games. He’s still a solid bargain for the price, especially when you consider what others around his price have done in the playoffs so far. House is a lock right now, especially for his low price on FanDuel.
P.J. Tucker’s hustle always keeps him in consideration. He’s priced right and has 7x upside with a decent floor. He’s one of the better punts at center on either site. JaVale McGee is the other. You would roll with Hassan Whiteside if you want to get cute, but I’m not sure what his upside is. C.J. and Nurkic are going to dominate the usage.
If you want to play the narrative, it’s not that difficult to get the three Thunder guards and Westbrook in a lineup. However, this feels like a day to build a balanced lineup. I’m going to have a few different looks on this slate. Whereas most of my lineups for Thursday looked about the same, I’m switching it up a lot here since Harden isn’t the lock he was three days ago.
