Will the Chicago Cubs be able to add some help for the bullpen via the Baltimore Orioles before the end of the trade deadline?

Things have gone quite smoothly for the Chicago Cubs in 2020, with the team currently at the top of the NL Central standings with a 20-14 mark. However, there’s no denying they could use some help in the bullpen if they want to try and bring home another World Series title.

With the trade deadline on Monday, could Chicago end up making a splash? Per a report, Chicago is among the multiple teams who have been in contact with the Baltimore Orioles for one of their lefty arms.

Among the players the Cubs are interested in potentially acquiring includes Paul Fry and Tanner Scott. Thus far in 2020, Fry has appeared in 14 games for Baltimore, posting a 1.93 ERA. This is his third season in the bigs, all with the Orioles.

Either player would make for a nice upgrade to the Cubs bullpen

As for Scott, he’s also been strong this year. Scott has made 15 appearances and holds a 2.03 ERA. He’s in his fourth season with Baltimore. There’s some competition to land both these lefties, as the Nationals and other clubs have interesting in working a trade.

For the Cubs, they could end up sending Baltimore some top prospects if they think either Scott or Fry can help them when things matter in the postseason this fall. The Orioles are continuing to rebuild, as the are 14-19 on the year. That’s why Scott or Fry could be on the move, with Chicago clearly interested.

Only time will tell if a trade is made and Chicago gets one of their guys. Should the Cubs add to their bullpen right before the deadline, it’ll surely be troubling news for the rest of the National League. This team looks poised to go on another deep postseason run.
