College football DFS wide receiver picks September 3:

Top Tier:

Austin Watkins was a 1000-yard receiver for UAB last year with the same QB throwing to him for most of the season. He’s easily the top WR play on the slate and might come close to outscoring the quarterbacks. He’s the one guy I will definitely pay up for.

Middle Tier:

We know that Jack Abraham is going to throw the ball plenty. What we don’t know is if Tim Jones or Jason Brownlee will be underneath most of them. Jones is the safe pick, but Brownlee has nice upside. I tend to think that Southern Miss will throw more tonight than the rest of the teams, so stacking the receivers may not be a bad idea. You can even throw DeMarcus Jones in there for good measure.

Kawaan Baker was the possession receiver last year, but Jalen Tolbert was the big play guy. I’m big on Tolbert here. I don’t think he’ll outdo Watkins, but if Central Arkansas gets blown out, he just might.

Bargain Shoppers:

I don’t really see a reason to go below Watkins in the UAB receiving corps here. They may toss a few Rob Johnson’s way to see what they have, but for value I’d rather look the way of Central Arkansas. They are likely going to have the throw to keep up and the interceptions don’t hurt the receivers.

Lujuan Winningham led the Bears in week 1 with six receptions and the only receiving touchdown against Austin Peay. Expect him to be the primary target again. Tyler Hudson had one less reception and two more yards but was held out of the end zone. Those are the two guys you want.
