J.J. Watt commented on some booing heard from fans Thursday night.

The Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs had the honor of opening the 2020 NFL season Thursday night. The Chiefs came out on top, but just having football back was a great feat.

The usual pregame festivities took place in front of a limited crowd at Arrowhead Stadium and part of that was a moment of silence in which players from both teams locked arms in a quick show of unity. This seemed to be as non-controversial as can be. However, boos were heard from the crowd and J.J. Watt joined with those who couldn’t understand the negativity.

J.J. Watt part of the right side

This moment of unity did not involve the flag, the national anthem, or a speech from any player. It was a simple moment and the booing proves some people have no interest in actually listening or paying attention to what the players are saying.

There was not even any politics involved. It was just two teams joining arms before a game that didn’t even seem possible a few months ago.

Trying to explain reasons for the boos is not worth the time. What is worth some time and thought is listening to NFL players this week and throughout the rest of the season as they seek to bring positive change in the country.

Are things so divided we can’t support athletes locking arms before a game of football? This won’t be a problem in many stadiums this week as Kansas City was one of the few places are fans were allowed to attend.

Players like Watt need to just keep focusing on doing the right thing. That is much more noble than booing players during a sign of unity.
