Golden Tate’s cleats will honor the legacy of Chadwick Boseman and Kobe Bryant.

New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate was held out of their Monday Night Football loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he should be ready to go against the Chicago Bears in Week 2. The playmaker’s wardrobe is certainly going to attract attention, as he has a special tribute planned for two legends within their respective crafts who passed away over the last few months.

The outside of one of Tate’s cleats featured the image of Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant and his personal logo, while the other has a picture of “Black Panther” actor Chadwick Boseman, who recently lost a battle with cancer.

Golden Tate isn’t the only athlete to honor these two

Honoring one or both of these two icons isn’t a trend that’s unique to football, as St. Louis Cardinals starter Jack Flaherty honored the late Boseman just a few weeks ago with his own special cleats. While both Bryant and Boseman might’ve left us, Tate and Flaherty are doing everything in their power to make sure their legacies are not forgotten or minimized after their passing.

No matter what Tate has on his feet, he’ll need to have a breakout performance against a tough Bears defense. Luckily, this is the first time in a while that all of New York’s promised offensive weapons will share the field at the same time, so the offense as a whole might be a bit more up-tempo than what we’ve seen in weeks past.

Even though Kobe passed away in January and Boseman left us just a few weeks ago, the void they’ve created in their respective professions is immeasurably large. Tate clearly idolized both of these legends, and he’s paying homage to them on gameday.
