Drew Lock is set to miss a few weeks with an injury.

The Denver Broncos are not in a great position following the first two weeks of the 2020 season. The team is 0-2 and just lost wide receiver Courtland Sutton for the season. Then there is the quarterback.

Drew Lock suffered an injury Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jeff Driskel had to finish the game. An update on Lock came Monday and while he is not out for the season, he will still miss some time.

Drew Lock out at least two weeks

Calling any injury “severe” is never a good sign. Lock is now out a minimum of two weeks with his rotator cuff injury. And that timetable is just until he will be evaluated again. That is not precisely when he will return.

Driskel is 1-7 as a starter and most recently went 0-3 with the Detroit Lions in 2019. The record is not entirely on him, but he has not shown much to inspire faith that he will be better than Lock in any way.

Lock threw a total of five passes before leaving the Week 2 loss. This came after he went 22/33 for 216 yards in a tough Week 1 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Such a start is not what Broncos fans had in mind after all the offseason hype surrounding the quarterback who went 4-1 as a starter last season.

This is tough news for the Broncos as the next matchup on the schedule is a home game against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That is followed by a game against the New York Jets and the earliest Lock could return is for a Week 5 game against the New England Patriots.

The focus now should be on making sure Lock is healthy before forcing him back into action. He is still seen as the quarterback of the future in Denver and risking any lingering rotator cuff issues is not worth it given all the injuries on the roster right now. This may end up being another year focused on player development for the Broncos if Lock returns to a team at the bottom of the standings.
