Dak Prescott made history in a losing effort Sunday.

The Dallas Cowboys are off to a bizarre start in 2020. The team is 1-2 and the only win came in a dramatic Week 2 comeback against the Atlanta Falcons. But that record is good enough to be tied for first in what appears to be a dreadful NFC East division.

Things get weird when considering the numbers the offense has put up so far. Specifically, Dak Prescott. He threw for exactly 450 yards against the Falcons and followed that up Sunday with 472 yards against the Seattle Seahawks. Even in a loss, that mark was good enough to make Cowboys history.

Dak Prescott putting up huge numbers

Notice how that history isn’t about 450-yard games. It has to do with 400-yard performances and Prescott easily set this record. Fans in the Twitter comments will call out how the Cowboys lost Sunday, but the final score was 38-31 so it’s not like the quarterback didn’t put points on the board.

The records go further as Prescott joined Jameis Winston as the only two quarterbacks to post back-to-back 450-yard games. Winston accomplished that feat last season.

One knock against Prescott is he did throw two interceptions Sunday. A pick also ended the game and prevented another amazing Cowboys comeback. He did still go 37/57 for 472 yards on a day when Ezekiel Elliott only managed 34 yards on 14 carries.

The big story of the weekend was Mississippi State quarterback K.J. Costello throwing for a mind-boggling 623 yards in an upset victory over LSU. That surely had Prescott fired up and the former MSU Bulldog has made it look like he is playing in a Mike Leach offense in Dallas.

The Cowboys defense appears to be a big problem for Mike McCarthy in his first season with the team. What fans do know is Prescott is doing his part to put his team in a position to win while also boosting his own value in a contract year.
