Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Trysten Hill has been under fire for his role in Chris Carson’s injury. But his head coach has his back.

The Dallas Cowboys were oh so close to pulling out another comeback victory in consecutive weeks. But, they ultimately fell to the now-undefeated Seattle Seahawks by the score of 38-31. However, the talk hasn’t been about the game itself, but rather the actions of defensive tackle Trysten Hill, who appeared to have twisted the leg of running back Chris Carson while he rolled on top of it, leading to his injury.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said he was “really pissed” about Hill’s actions, leading to Carson picking up a knee sprain. However, Mike McCarthy came to his player’s aid and was adamant that Hill didn’t twist the running back’s knee intentionally.

Hill unlikely to be suspended this year

What else did you expect McCarthy to say? He’s not going to publicly criticize his player to the press. A coach defends his players. End of story.

At the time of the injury, fans were expecting the worst for Carson, who through three games rushed for 157 yards on 37 carries. But on Monday, the Seahawks could breath a gigantic sigh of relief, as an MRI revealed that Carson didn’t suffer any ligament damage and is only dealing with a minor knee sprain. It’s currently unknown if Carson will be deemed fit to play for next Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

While Hill is being ridiculed for his play, he’s not going to miss any time for it. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Hill is unlikely to be suspended by the NFL, but will be hit in the wallet in the form of a fine. That means the Cowboys’ already depleted defense won’t take a hit with Hill’s absence, as he’ll be ready for Week 4 against a Cleveland Browns offense led by dynamic running back duo Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.
