Jalen Reagor has been placed on IR by the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles were hoping that 2020 first-round pick Jalen Reagor would both give their passing game an added vertical dimension and eventually succeed DeSean Jackson as a starter. Reagor has not only started off slow in both of those two categories due to limited production and time on the field for the 0-2-1 Eagles, but his body is starting to betray him early in his young career.

Reagor’s thumb injury has persisted to the point where the Eagles, who are already down a few offensive linemen and tight end Dallas Goedert, have placed him on injured reserve. Since players can be taken off of injured reserve after three weeks, Reagor will miss the San Francisco game as well as matchups against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens.

While he has been injured, Jalen Reagor has had some nice moments

Reagor, who made his name as a speed demon at TCU despite poor quarterback play, made some noise by hauling in a 55-yard catch in a Week 1 loss against the Washington Football Team. After snagging four passes against the Los Angeles Rams, Reagor aggravated his hand injury. Eagles fans confused as to why Reagor was picked over Justin Jefferson will have more ammunition in their back pocket after his breakout Week 3.

With Reagor out for some time, expect 2020 fifth-round pick John Hightower and 2019 breakout star Greg Ward to assume a greater role in the passing game. Failing 2019 second-rounder JJ Arcega-Whiteside might also get more attention with Reagor on the mend.

Reagor has had some solid performances during his first three games in the pros, but none of them were good enough to either overcome some awful quarterback play from Carson Wentz or help the Eagles win. Philly will need to wait until Week 7, which comes after matchups against three of the league’s best defenses in San Francisco, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore, to see Reagor again.
