The NFC East standings make no sense right now

The Washington Football Team was spanked at home by the Baltimore Ravens, dropping their record to 1-3. With a struggling young quarterback in Dwayne Haskins and one of the league’s worst supporting casts, Washington looks like one of the worst teams in the league. However, if the season ended today, they would host a home playoff game.

With the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles still yet to play in Week 4 and the Dallas Cowboys coming off a home loss to the Cleveland Browns, Washington still technically is in first place after a 1-3 start. However, if Philadelphia wins on Sunday Night against the San Francisco 49ers, they’ll be in first at 1-2-1.

Even with their myriad of issues on both sides of the ball, Washington has looked comparatively stable when pitted against some of their division rivals.

Washington and Dallas, who only aren’t 0-4 because of some legendary brain farts from the Atlanta Falcons as they blew a huge fourth-quarter lead, might both be 1-3, but Ron Rivera and the Football Team have that a divisional win in their back pocket after taking down Carson Wentz and the struggling Philadelphia Eagles. In a race as low-quality as this, that could come back to bite Philly late in the season.

While much wasn’t expected out of Washington or Daniel Jones’ Giants, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys were expected to fight it out with Wentz’s Eagles for the division crown. However, poor play on offense in Philadelphia and poor defense in Dallas has them fighting with Washington for the division title.

Someone has to win this race to the finish, and it’ll likely be the team who can avoid getting out of their own way enough to stumble into a few victories here and there.

Next. 3 trades to save the Cowboys. dark
