Jimbo Fisher got his first signature win at Texas A&M as the Aggies beat No. 4 Florida.

Texas A&M beat Florida with a field goal as time expired to give Jimbo Fisher his first signature win as the head coach of the Aggies. The 41-38 win over Florida is the first over a top-five opponent for Fisher since arriving in College Station.

Few gave Texas A&M much of a shot against No. 4 Florida, even in Kyle Field, but the combination of quarterback Kellen Mond, running back Isaiah Spiller and an opportunistic Aggies defense was too much for Kyle Trask and the Gators to overcome.

“You gotta learn to win these. Fisher told Holly Rowe after the win. You play every play, relentless competitors. I can’t say enough. People doubted them. We got a very good football team and a heck of a program.”

Mond threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns and Spiller ran for 174 yards and two touchdowns to keep pace with the high-powered Gators offense that had Heisman hopeful Trask leading the Florida attack.

But it was a late fumble by the Gators that gave the Aggies life in the waning minutes at home that led to the game-winning drive that ended with the 26-yard field goal as time expired.

Fisher had tremendous success against Florida when he was the head coach at Florida State, but this is arguably the most memorable as he can use this as a momentum-builder for his program that has kinda stalled out but now can take the next step in the rebuild.

Texas A&M has recruited well under Fisher but the wins weren’t there the way fans had hoped after he got a $75 million contract. After Texas A&M was blown out vs. Alabama last week, there may have been some pessimism that this season wasn’t going to be much different.

However, this win vs. Florida is a signature win that can serve as the launching point for the Aggies to compete for that second spot behind Alabama in the SEC West.

With LSU and Auburn struggling to start the year, the Aggies may find themselves back in the mix for a marquee bowl game if they’re able to win out the rest of the way. Beating Florida and the way in which they beat Florida could be a veritable program-altering win for Texas A&M.
