Davante Adams addressed the Twitter elephant in the room, and it’s not as bad as Packers fans thought.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams might not have played in the team’s outing against the Atlanta Falcons, but his presence was certainly felt. Following the team’s decision to sit the Pro-Bowl target, Adams took to Twitter to admit his frustration.

On Wednesday, Adams addressed the now-deleted tweet for the first time, stating his desire to play is stronger than his injury.

“It’s not too much to read into it to say I was frustrated,” Adams told reporters Wednesday. “Obviously, I’m a competitor. I think everybody knows that. Everybody knows what I’m about and how I play football. I don’t necessarily, obviously, understand what the club’s interest [is] and everything that goes with it.

“But being a competitor, like I said, and me being who I am and how I’m wired, even if I’m not 100 percent, which I said obviously at that point I felt great to play. But even if I’m not 100 percent, I mean, I’ve played few football games feeling 100 percent. So at the end of the day, a lot of that factored into the decision.”

Packers star receiver has yet to play since Week 2 vents frustration

Packers coach Matt LaFleur said he addressed Adams’ tweet and understood the receiver’s message.

“That was the best thing to do,” LaFleur stated. “A little frustrated when it happened, obviously, but then decided to take it down just so there were no distractions on game day, and my teammates could go out there and take care of business without hearing about too much extra stuff.”

Adams has yet to suit up since leaving Week 2 against the Detroit Lions with an apparent hamstring injury. Prior to departing the field, the Packers’ top target was on a tear for success, tallying 14 catches for 156 yards in a Week 1 victory against NFC North rival Minnesota.

LaFleur did not comment on if Adams would suit up for Sunday’s outing. If inactive, Aaron Rodgers would be without his top two targets for a second straight week. Earlier this month, Green Bay elected to place third-year receiver Allen Lazard on the injured reserve after undergoing core muscle surgery.
