The Braves made a huge mistake on the bases to bail out the Dodgers.

The Atlanta Braves went up 3-2 in the fourth inning and were threatening with runners on second and third with no outs. Nick Markakis was at the plate and ripped a grounder to third base.

For some reason, Dansby Swanson ran home and got caught in a rundown. Meanwhile, Austin Riley was just standing between second and third and was also thrown out. The whole situation was a disaster.

Braves bail out the Dodgers

This was a huge mistake that could loom large in the game as the Braves look to advance to the World Series for the first time since 1999.

The first obvious blunder is Swanson running home with no outs. Ron Washington should have made it clear he was not running on contact. That is something young kids are taught, let alone MLB stars.

Then comes Riley just getting hung up in the basepath. What was he doing? He either needs to go back to second or commit to third while Swanson is still running. Instead, he panicked and had the worst possible outcome.

Runs just can’t be given away in an elimination game. The Dodgers went on to load the bases in the bottom of the inning and Braves fans may have already been cursing the decision-making on the bases. Luckily, Tyler Matzek struck out Max Muncy to end the threat.

There has been enough drama in four innings to last a full game. That is how these elimination games go and the Braves will need to regroup in the dugout and go over basic situational plays to make sure no more blunders are made.
