When Will Smith hit a solo home run against the Rays, the highlight of the play was a fan in the stands making an unbelievable catch.

Will Smith is having himself a very nice postseason, adding to his stats with a single home run in Game 2 of the World Series on Wednesday night.

As nice as the shot was, the highlight of the moment wasn’t really the home run itself, which pulled the Dodgers deficit to 6-3 in the seventh inning.

Instead, a fan in the stands stole the show when he reached up to make an impressive catch.

Less impressive was the celebration of his catch, which involved fake-throwing the ball back then opting to throw his glove onto the field.

Will Smith’s home run was great, but the focus is on the fan

No one on Twitter can seem to figure out what the fan was doing after his catch. Throwing the glove on the field was an interesting choice.

Maybe it was a misguided play on throwing a home run ball back on the field if it was hit by the opposing team?

Maybe the guy just had a bit too much to drink.

Either way, the fan has overshadowed Smith’s moment, which is unfortunate since the 25-year-old is the youngest catcher to hit a home run in the World Series since 2014. That’s quite the achievement that will forever be shadowed by the great catch and glove throw.

Smith has now hit two home runs in the 2020 postseason. A few more for the Dodgers wouldn’t go amiss as the series continues, though he has already written himself into MLB folklore for hitting a homer off the other Will Smith pitching for the Atlanta Braves in the ALCS.
