The Red Sox have reportedly talked with former manager Alex Cora now that his suspension is over.

The Boston Red Sox and Alex Cora decided to part ways earlier in 2020 once it was clear he was wrapped up in the Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal. A one-year ban followed and that ended with the conclusion of this year’s World Series.

Ron Roenicke got the manager job and was fired before the season even ended. That means the Red Sox need a new skipper and it turns out they have been in touch with someone who has won them a World Series. If you guessed Cora, you guessed right. The Boston Globe is reporting the news.

Could Cora get his old job back?

It was not like Cora had a huge falling out with the Red Sox. Both sides seemed to know a suspension was coming and avoided any drama during the season by just agreeing to part ways.

The Globe’s report provides a long list of candidates the Red Sox are considering. Cora has to be at the top of any list given his success with the team. He led the team to a World Series title in 2018 and the cheating that did happen occurred in Houston.

A.J. Hinch already has a new job with the Detroit Tigers so there is no reason why Cora can’t find a job fast. In fact, Hinch and Cora were the clearly top two candidates to hire this offseason. If the Red Sox don’t want their former manager, another team may take him.

Cora went 192-132 in two seasons with the Red Sox and won a World Series. The only obstacle now is those atop the organization willing to take on any negative publicity. But once again, Cora is likely going to land a job somewhere. He is the best option given his familiarity with the team and the public relations hit may be worth it in the end.
