Are the Packers out on Will Fuller?

Houston Texans wide receiver Will Fuller has been the subject of trade rumors entering the 2020 NFL trade deadline. The Green Bay Packers have needed a No.2 wide receiver since last season. On paper, this seemed like a perfect match for all involved.

Unfortunately, this might just remain on paper.

According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Packers are torn for trading for the speedy Texans target. Apparently, there’s been a disagreement in Green Bay at the highest levels of the organization over whether or not to spend a quality draft pick from April’s 2021 NFL Draft for a rental option.

According to The Athletic’s Aaron Reiss, Houston is hoping to pull in at least a second-round selection for the former first-round target. Houston will be without their first and second-round selections after former Texans head coach and GM Bill O’Brien traded them away to the Dolphins last season to add tackle Laremy Tunsil.

Meanwhile, Fuller’s post on Twitter perfectly captures the trade day rumors thus far.

Is Fuller worth a higher pick?

The 26-year-old is entering a contract season with Houston but has played his best ball in 2020 in large part due to health. Taking over as the Texans’ go-to target, Fuller leads the team with 31 catches for 490 yards and five touchdowns.

The Packers offense stumbled against Dalvin Cook and the Minnesota Vikings Sunday afternoon. Outside of Robert Tonyan and Devante Adams, no other target finished with more than 50 yards while Adams hauled in all three scores from Aaron Rodgers. For the season, Adams remains the only Packers wide receiver with over 20 catches and 300 yards.

The Packers remain ahead in the NFC North, but the offense is missing an element. Last season, Rodgers led nearly the same team to a 13-3 finish, but failed to make the Super Bowl after limited offensive production in the NFC Championship game. Now, the team has a chance to add a quality target, yet they’re arguing over the pricing?

Only time will tell if the Packers finally upgrade at receiver. Fans will know soon as the deadline is set to end Tuesday at 4 p.m. EST.
