Cam Newton’s latest message is a simple one New England Patriots fans can all get behind.

2020 has not gone the way Cam Newton or the New England Patriots thought it would.

The Patriots are a terrible 2-5 through their first seven games of the 2020 NFL season. This is a team that routinely went 12-4 and won AFC East crowns under former starting quarterback Tom Brady. While there is nothing New England can do to bring Brady back, Patriots fans can feel pretty good about what Newton said in his latest message: He just wants to win. That’s it.

Cam Newton and the Patriots have no choice but to win the rest of the way

The Patriots are 3.5 games back of the division-leading Buffalo Bills in the AFC East race. Newton fumbled the ball on a potential game-winning drive in Orchard Park last week. Buffalo is 6-2 and may win its first division title since Jim Kelly was its quarterback back in 1996. New England is also two games back of the surprisingly decent 4-3 Miami Dolphins through eight weeks.

The good news for the Patriots is they face the worst team in the NFL in the division rival New York Jets on the road on Monday Night Football this week. If the Patriots were to lose to Gang Green and fall to 2-6, it will be man overboard in Foxborough. The Patriots will have lost their last five games, dropping to 0-4 away from Gillette Stadium this season. Newton may be benched.

The Patriots’ last win came over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 27. New England has since lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Denver Broncos, the San Francisco 49ers and the Bills to plummet to 2-5. The other great news for the Patriots is they can 2-2 in November, possibly 3-1 if they can pull off an upset as a home dog vs. either the Baltimore Ravens or the Arizona Cardinals.

If Newton and New England want to salvage the rest of their season, they have to beat the Jets on the road this week and the lowly Houston Texans on the road in two weeks. Getting to 4-7 through the November slate isn’t great, but their December slate is much more navigable with a lot of division games remaining. If the Patriots go 1-3 or worse in November, it’s season over.

Newton wants to win so badly in November, because if he does not, his career might be over with.
