The New York Mets have money to burn and Trevor Bauer is an elite free agent. Will the two sides make a deal? It’s possible, and Bauer had a great line.

MLB Free Agency began with the dawn of November, and Trevor Bauer is the top prize. Perhaps the New York Mets end up landing him.

If so, we’ll have some great context after Bauer tweeted out some dead-pan hilarity about his personality meshing with the people of New York.

As a New Yorker, there’s a few things that are absolutely true about his fit in the Big Apple. If he pitches poorly, he’s going to get the same treatment every other star player who cashes in gets when they underperform. He’s going to get booed off the mound, personality be damned.

However, if Bauer continues to be the ace he’s been for most of his career with the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds, his personality will make him the biggest star in New York sports.

People in NYC absolutely love when their stars show some personality. Derek Jeter wasn’t controversial by any means, but he showed emotion and passion. The same could be said for New York Knicks Hall of Fame center Patrick Ewing. Also of the ’90s, New York Rangers center Mark Messier was tough and willing to fight. He was revered. Still is.

Bauer going to the Mets, being great and being part of a turnaround for the long-suffering franchise would make him a hero in Gotham.

Frankly, he’s made for New York.
