James Harden and Russell Westbrook have both asked for a trade out of Houston. They have the support of Anthony Davis who has been through the process.

Anthony Davis is enjoying himself as an NBA champion. And he wants more.

“I always dreamt of being an NBA champion along with many other things,” Davis told Da Windy City podcast. “It’s something I can scratch off the list of accomplishments, but I definitely don’t want to make this the only one.

Davis is reportedly headed to free agency after declining the option on the final year of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. Davis is expected to re-sign with the Lakers on a longer term deal, the length of which is uncertain.

The All-NBA talent is an expert at forcing his way out of a situation where he was not happy. He informed the New Orleans Pelicans he would not resign with them last January and was ultimately dealt in July to the Lakers.

Davis took a lot of heat from fans who thought he was being a selfish player and his trade demand was bad for the NBA. He, unsurprisingly, disagrees.

“Guys never played on the professional level how you going to say whats great for the league? You never played in the league,” Davis said. “You don’t know whats great for the league. Players should have the ability to control their own destiny and do what they want to do.”

Davis supports his NBA brethren

Speaking of players controlling their own destiny, Davis is close friends with both James Harden and Russell Westbrook, who both reportedly want out of Houston. Davis knows the pressure both are under while advocating for themselves.

“I just went through it not too long ago,” Davis said. “If a team trades a player now it’s all about business, it’s the business side of basketball. But when a player asks to leave or want to control their own destiny, then the player looks bad. I think the players are just gaining control of their careers back and doing what they want to do whats best for them and their families. If someone gets mad at that who cares? I don’t.”

Davis is available for advice if either Westbrook or Harden want to call, but he is not expecting they will reach out.

“I think they already know. They have both been through it already,” Davis said. “Russ has been through it in OKC and James has been through it in OKC as well. I think they are two guys who have been in the league long enough and know what they want. They both made a ton of money and both those guys I know for a fact want to win cause I’m really close with both of them. And they want to win, they want to compete for a championship whether thats in Houston or somewhere else I know they are going to make the best decision for themselves and their family.”

If Harden gets his reported wish he may end up in Brooklyn playing with both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Could that 3-some work?

“You’ve got a great coach over there, great minded guy who knows the game from a point guard position,” Davis said. “If it happens it happens, if it doesn’t it doesn’t. I am trying to figure out what Anthony Davis is going to do. Once I figure that out we’ll start looking at teams and things like that but that will be a pretty good team though.”

Anthony Davis is working with Mobil 1 to offer fans the opportunity to win some exclusive signed apparel. The sweeps opened on Saturday and will run all the way through to December 31.
