Russell Wilson threw a strike to DK Metcalf to get the scoring started Thursday night.

Russell Wilson is one of the only true competitors to Patrick Mahomes in the NFL MVP race this season. He is playing on the national stage Thursday night and gave his Seattle Seahawks an early lead over the Arizona Cardinals.

The lead came via a beautiful touchdown pass to DK Metcalf as the receiver kept moving around until he found an opening in the end zone.

A perfect throw from Wilson

This was a vintage play from the Seahawks quarterback. He used his legs to keep the play alive and just so happens to have one of the most dominant receivers in football on the field with him.

This was Wilson’s league-leading 29th touchdown pass of the season and Metcalf’s ninth receiving touchdown. The duo is proving to be one of the best in football and it is hard to stop either player.

The one thing that could end up hurting Wilson in the MVP race is his interception total. He is at 10 so far on the year and has a combined four picks in his last two games. Stopping that pace Thursday night can help the number not look so bad as the season progresses.

This is a pivotal game in general for both teams as they each enter with identical 6-3 records. The Los Angeles Rams are also 6-3 and divisional games will end up being important in the standings when it comes to the postseason. The Cardinals beat the Seahawks earlier this season and Seattle is looking to defend its home field, which is now named Lumen Field. For those who missed that announcement.

The Wilson to Metcalf connection is something the Cardinals will have to adapt to if they want any chance of stopping the Seahawks offense in this game.
