D.K. Metcalf really, really wants Eagles to start Jalen Hurts against Seahawks

Maybe it’s rude, maybe it’s a compliment? Either way, D.K. Metcalf is voting for Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles are in a bit of a bind. Carson Wentz continues to struggle deep into the season, proving something isn’t working. The team now is sitting at 3-6-1, barely clinching on to the division title.

A showdown at Lincoln Financial Field against the Seattle Seahawks could be the nail in the coffin of second-place mediocrity that is the NFC East. However, if the team wants to win, perhaps switching quarterbacks is the best phase of option
.
And if you ask D.K. Metcalf’s opinion, he would tend to agree.

According to a screenshot of an Instagram post from ESPN’s Jordan Shultz, Metcalf commented on the status of the quarterback concerns found in Philadelphia’s locker room. If he were Doug Pederson, rookie Jalen Hurts should be given his chance to make a start against the Seattle secondary with hopes of picking up a victory.

Seahawks running back DeeJay Dallas also commented in full support of Hurts getting the call.

Could Hurts be worse than Wentz?

Drafted 53rd overall last April, Hurts has been used as a gadget player more than anything in limited snaps this season for the Eagles. In fact, in the 31 snaps played this year, he’s gone 2-of-2 passing for 27 yards and added 59 more as a run/pass-catching threat.

Wentz is clearly either regressing or having some form of the yips to begin the new decade. On Sunday against the Browns, it became his sixth game this season where he’d throw at least two interceptions. For the year, Wentz currently leads the NFL in turnovers with 20 (14 interceptions, six fumbles).

At this point, it’ll be hard to part ways with Wentz — even for the season — due to his massive contract. However, if there ever was a game for the 27-year-old to figure things out, it would be Monday against the Seahawks. Seattle’s pass defense ranks dead last in coverage, allowing an average of 343.3 yards per game.

Now tied with the Rams, Metcalf and Seattle need an easy victory to secure their spot on top of the NFC West. In what would be his first true start, maybe Hurts would struggle enough to secure a big day for the offense to capitalize against the Sooners’ struggles.
