After Rajon Rondo agreed to a new deal with the Atlanta Hawks, LeBron James took to Instagram to thank him for helping the Lakers win a title.

With so much movement going on right now for NBA players, it also means it’s time for some tough goodbyes to be made. Such has been the case for LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

After James said goodbye to Dwight Howard, he followed that up this week in letting Rajon Rondo know just how special he is to him. Both players helped the Lakers win the NBA Finals last season, but Howard has since signed with the 76ers and Rondo will be joining the Hawks.

LeBron James sent an emotional message to Rajon Rondo after he signed a new deal with Atlanta

In his post, James thanked Rondo for his time in LA and made it clear to everyone that Los Angeles would not have won the NBA Finals last campaign over the Miami Heat had it not been for the veteran guard making plays for the team throughout the entire season.

In 2019-20, Rondo averaged 7.1 points and five assists per game. He wasn’t expected to be a lethal scorer for Los Angeles, especially with James and Anthony Davis stealing the show as the main offensive weapons. However, Rondo’s ability to distribute the ball made a monster difference.

Rondo spent the past two seasons with the Lakers, but once free agency got underway, the expectation was that he’d be leaving town and suit up for a new team. Who could have guessed he’d be signing with the Hawks, though? Regardless, once Rondo does head to Atlanta, he’ll be bringing plenty of veteran experience to a young team. Perhaps more importantly, he’ll be doing so as a recent NBA champion.
