The Seattle Seahawks-Philadelphia Eagles game got off to a chippy start on Monday night, with Darius Slay and D.K. Metcalf in the middle of it.

If you thought the Week 12 edition of Monday Night Football would be a tame affair, you’re wrong. The Seattle Seahawks hit the road to play the Philadelphia Eagles, with both teams looking to gain ground in the playoff race. Add in the fact that the Seahawks defeated the Eagles in the Wild-Card Round last year, and you’ve got the makings of a contest filled with bad blood.

During the Seahawks’ opening drive, wide receiver D.K. Metcalf made a catch and forced Eagles cornerback Darius Slay to miss on a tackle attempt. A couple of plays later, and both Metcalf and Slay engaged in a shoving match, with the defensive back receiving an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for his actions.

Slay and the Eagles get the last laugh on that drive

The Eagles were far from the most disciplined team on that drive, as defensive tackle Malik Jackson was penalized for unnecessary roughness on the following play and defensive end Vinny Curry was called for offsides two plays prior to the melee. But the Eagles managed to get out of a hole after Derek Barnett completely stuffed Seahawks receiver David Moore on fourth-and-goal to turn the ball over on downs.

Metcalf made waves in the news this past week leading up to the Monday night game, as he endorsed rookie and former Oklahoma Sooner quarterback Jalen Hurts getting the start over Carson Wentz. Could that have been the reason why Slay got a bit chippy towards Metcalf? Probably not. This could’ve been the usual trash talk between wideout and cornerback.

Expect the tensions to continue to rise as the game progresses, especially since serious playoff implications are on the line.
