Stephen Curry says it’s a “huge goal” to spend his entire career with the Golden State Warriors, the team that drafted him back in 2009.

The 2020-21 NBA season is just weeks away, and as the Los Angeles Lakers solidified themselves as the team to beat with their terrific offseason, there’s extra attention on the Golden State Warriors.

Star point guard Stephen Curry will be ready to lead his squad, consisting of familiar faces and some new talent. However, Curry is eligible to receive a contract extension in the near future, as his supermax extension is almost up.

When speaking about his contract situation, Curry says it’s a “huge goal” of his to spend his entire career in a Warriors uniform.

Stephen Curry wants to be a Warrior for life

Back in 2017, after the organization won its second NBA championship in three years, Curry signed a five-year, $201 million supermax extension. He currently has two years remaining on the deal, and he can cash in on a three-year, $156 million max extension starting in 2022-23, per ESPN’s Bobby Marks. However, Curry has until Dec. 21 to agree to the terms and put pen to paper.

Curry is entering his 12th season with the Warriors and is hoping to rectify a rather disastrous 2019-20 campaign. With the departure of Kevin Durant to the Brooklyn Nets and Klay Thompson tearing his ACL in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, Curry had to pick up the slack if he wanted to bring his squad back to the postseason. However, the two-time NBA MVP was limited to just five games after breaking his left hand.

As mentioned earlier, the Western Conference has gotten tougher with the improved Lakers squad, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Then there are teams like the Denver Nuggets, LA Clippers and Dallas Mavericks, who could be roadblocks in the postseason. Curry and the Warriors will have to go another season without Thompson, as he suffered a torn Achilles on the day of the NBA Draft. However, Golden State did make additions this offseason, such as second overall pick and former Memphis center James Wiseman and ex-Phoenix Suns forward Kelly Oubre Jr., which could potentially help them contend for a playoff berth.

No matter how the season goes, Curry will not be leaving San Francisco any time soon. He let it be known that he’d like to retire as a career Warrior.
