A.J. Bouye has been suspended for using performance-enhancing drugs.

Vic Fangio and the Denver Broncos entered the season with legitimate playoff aspirations, but that rosy outlook has been washed away due to remarkable inconsistency under center. While the defense has been the lone bastion of competence, even that stalwart bunch appears to be on the verge of collapse following the news surrounding cornerback A.J. Bouye.

Per Mike Klis, Bouye is likely going to be suspended for his usage of performance-enhancing drugs. Klis also claims that Bouye incident is related to the same scandals that earned Houston Texans wide receiver Will Fuller and cornerback Bradley Roby their suspensions.

A.J. Bouye has only played in a handful of games as a Bronco

After starring as an undrafted free agent with the Texans, Bouye cashed in with a huge payday thanks to the Jacksonville Jaguars. As Jacksonville looked to tank, or, as they would call it, “cutting salary”, Bouye was shipped off to a Denver team who eyed a playoff spot following a very busy offseason.

After missing essentially the first half of the season following an injury picked up in the Monday Night Football opener against the Tennessee Titans, Bouye has done a respectable job at corner on a solid Broncos defense that has been let down by an inconsistent offense. However, considering this latest news, one has to wonder if all of his performance was natural.

Bouye still has one more year on his deal, so the Broncos will likely get him back fully clean and ready to go next season. Still, this suspension is emblematic of a year in which nothing has gone right in Denver. Considering most of Denver’s secondary has been wiped out due to suspension or injury, this season could end on a bumpy note.
