The Miami Dolphins have another impressive win under their belt, and here’s how they make the playoffs in 2020.

Sometimes the best wins aren’t the prettiest. The Miami Dolphins will take note of that entering Week 16.

A costly interception from Tua Tagovailoa during the team’s first drive gave the New England Patriots hope of pulling off the upset. Instead, poor offensive execution from Cam Newton and the lack of personnel propelled Miami to a 22-12 victory at home.

The loss for New England officially eliminates them from the AFC playoff picture for the first time since 2008. Meanwhile, the victory in South Beach guarantees a record above .500 for the still rebuilding Dolphins.

Add on another turnover from the defense and it’s 20 straight games Dolphins’ defense has continued to add on to their streak.

Miami’s road to the postseason isn’t over, but it still remains challenging. With the Buffalo Bills claiming a 49-19 victory over the Denver Broncos, they become the winners of the AFC East for the first time since 1995.

Meanwhile, a wild finish in Lucas Oil Stadium cements the Indianapolis Colts firmly in the No.6 seed another week.

The final two games for Miami will be essential, but here’s how the team can still make it into the AFC group chat for postseason play.

Miami’s playoff hopes remain alive

Next week, Miami will face Las Vegas in an all but elimination game for one squad for the seventh seed. The Raiders are coming off a tough loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in which they saw quarterback Derek Carr leave on the second drive with a groin injury.

His return for next week is questionable, meaning Marcus Mariota might be starting in his place once more.

The Bills could elect to rest their starters if the Kansas City Chiefs claim the No.1 seed prior to Week 17. A victory over the New Orleans Saints all but cements their top status, proving the battle to Tampa Bay runs through Arrowhead.

One win is down, Miami will need two to remain in contention. A victory over Las Vegas might be stronger in eliminating teams, but a win over AFC rival Buffalo enhances their divisional record. On top of that, if the Baltimore Ravens win all three of their games and Miami drops won, they would take the lead as the No.7 spot.

However, should Baltimore and Miami both win out, The Dolphins would head back to the postseason for the first time since 2016.

Barring any implosion from the Browns and Colts, the strategy for Miami is simple. Win and they’re in. With two close calls remaining on the schedule, let’s see if Brian Flores can pull out some magic and prove why he’s the only option for Coach of the Year.

Then again, nine wins for a rebuilding squad will easily still be considered a winning season.
