Kentucky basketball hasn’t been this bad since the Taft administration

The 2020-21 Kentucky Wildcats find themselves at a rancid 1-6 on the season.

No team in the Power 6 wants it to be conference play already more than John Calipari‘s Kentucky Wildcats.

Kentucky basketball is off to an utterly atrocious 1-6 start to the 2020-21 college season. The shining star program of the SEC has not been this bad to begin a campaign in 109 years. The last time the Wildcats were this unspectacular on the hardwood, William Howard Taft was the President of the United States of America and World War I had not even happened yet.

So how bad are things for Big Blue Nation these days?

After beating the Morehead State Eagles to start this season, Kentucky has lost its last six games to the Richmond Spiders, the Kansas Jayhawks, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the North Carolina Tar Heels and now to the in-state rival Louisville Cardinals. With mostly SEC play remaining, we have to wonder how things have gotten out of hand this quickly.

The only way for the Wildcats to make the NCAA Tournament at this juncture is to do so by winning the SEC Tournament. While falling to fellow blue-blood programs like Kansas and North Carolina is not the end of the world, Kentucky can only go 2-6 in non-conference play this season, and that is assuming they have a snowball’s chance vs. the Texas Longhorns out of the Big 12.
