Former Chicago Bears cornerback Michael Richardson has been arrested in Phoenix on second-degree murder charges.

This is most certainly not the kind of news Chicago Bears fans were hoping for or expecting leading up to the team’s Week 17 showdown against the Green Bay Packers. That’s because it’s been revealed this week that former team cornerback Michael Richardson was arrested.

Even more concerning, the former All-Pro standout was taken in on murder charges in Phoenix. Wait a minute, say what? Indeed, the defensive back who helped the Bears win the Super Bowl back in 1985 is currently facing second-degree murder charges over in Arizona.

Michael Richardson is being accused of murdering a 47-year-old man in Phoenix

According to local reports, Richardson is being accused of shooting and killing 47-year-old Ronald Like. Like’s body was reportedly found in the middle of an intersection and he was rushed to the hospital, but was not able to survive.

Richardson of course is no stranger to being in serious trouble with the law. He had already been arrested twice this year on drug charges.

In 2018, he was arrested on charges of possession and theft of heroin. Richardson has been battling drug addiction for years now, which has played a major role in him being charged with several felonies ever since he decided to hang up his cleats and retire from the NFL.

None of his arrests had ever been this serious, though, as he’s looking at plenty of jail time if he’s found guilty of second-degree murder of Like. Once a stud cornerback for a Super Bowl-winning team, it’s unfortunately been a major fall from grace for Richardson. It now feels like a lifetime ago since he won the Super Bowl in 1985 and was named Second Team All-Pro the following year in 1986.
