Derrick Henry rushes for 2,000 yards, 8th player in NFL history to do so

Titans running back Derrick Henry passed the 2,000-yard mark for the season, becoming the eighth player in NFL history to get there with another huge rushing performance.

Derrick Henry came into the final week of the NFL season 223 yards shy of a 2,000-yard season. Passing that mark would have required a performance approaching his career-best. So he went out and got it done.

With 250 yards against the Texans, Henry blew past 2,000 yards on the season and put himself in rare company.

Henry is just the eighth player in the history of the NFL to cross that threshold. He joins Barry Sanders, Eric Dickerson, Terrell Davis, Jamal Lewis, Adrian Peterson, Chris Johnson and O.J. Simpson, per Adam Schefter.

Derrick Henry has run like a man possessed to reach 2,000 yards on the season

Sunday’s outing was Henry’s third 200-yard rushing game of the campaign. Only Earl Campbell managed more games with that kind of output in a single season.

Henry rushed for 100 yards or more in six of his last eight games as he built up a furious finish.

To get the necessary yardage against the Texans, the Titans running back used his power, speed and aggression to break arm tackles and gain every yard available.

Henry has enjoyed playing Houston in the past. This is the third straight game against the team he has rushed for 200 yards, ESPN Stats & Info reported. No one in NFL history has done the same against one opponent.

The fifth-year pro will finish this season as the NFL’s rushing leader, taking the crown for the second-straight season. He picked up his second Pro Bowl nod as a result.

Henry’s two touchdowns on Sunday also gave him a career-high in scoring for the season with 17 rushing touchdowns.
