Mitchell Trubisky made a beautiful touchdown pass in the end zone, only for Javon Wims to whiff on it.

The Chicago Bears managed to reach the playoffs with an 8-8 record and were viewed as heavy underdogs against the second-seeded New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card Round. Entering the game, quarterback Mitchell Trubisky said the Bears have the mindset that they have nothing to lose against the Saints, and they certainly played like it in the first quarter.

Running back David Montgomery would hike the ball, lateral it to Cordarrelle Patterson who then pitched the ball to Trubisky. The quarterback would unleash a beautiful dime pass to the end zone intended for wide receiver Javon Wims. It would’ve been a 40-yard touchdown…had Wims actually caught the ball.

Bears drive all for naught

It truly was a shame for Wims, who one play prior actually made an impressive 28-yard catch along the sidelines. Life definitely comes at you fast.

Unfortunately for the Bears, they couldn’t muster up any points. After the Wims drop, Montgomery rushed for no gain and Trubisky hit rookie tight end Cole Kmet on a six-yard pass, setting them up for fourth down. Nagy would call a scramble for Trubisky, who rushed for two yards before running out of bounds instead of reaching for the first-down marker.

Play calling has always been a problem for the Bears, especially in their regular-season finale against the Green Bay Packers last week. But on the one trick play it actually works, Wims let the ball hit him in the chest. It’s going to be one of those games for the Bears.
