Alabama QB Mac Jones blows up on sideline following fumble
By Scott Rogust
The Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback had to check his emotions following his second quarter fumble.
Alabama quarterback Mac Jones has been spot on for the majority of the 2020 college football season. So, he was due to make a mistake.
During the second quarter of the CFP Championship Game against the Ohio State Buckeyes, Jones was looking to march down the field following a 12-yard reception by Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith. However, on the very next play, Jones was pressured by Ohio State defensive lineman Baron Browning, who sacked him five yards behind the line of scrimmage and forced the fumble.
Later on in the broadcast, ESPN sideline reporter Allison Williams said that Jones was fuming on the sidelines and had to verbally let out his frustrations on the bench. After letting off some of his anger, Jones returned to his offensive line with a smile on his face and told them to move past the mistake.
Jones’ handling of his emotions received praise from Saban
Jones’ head coach Nick Saban credited the quarterback’s ability to keep his emotions in check as one of his best signs of development. Saban’s words are taken as gospel, especially for NFL teams looking to draft one of his players in Tuscaloosa. Jones will be one of them, as there are plenty of organizations in the middle of the first-round of the NFL Draft who are in need of a quarterback.
Entering this game, Jones had completed 77.0-percent of his passes for 4,036 yards, 36 touchdowns and just four interceptions on the year.
For those teams looking at Jones, just be aware that he will let out a yell of frustration, but he’ll be return with a smile on his face.
