Conor McGregor issued a prediction before his return to the Octagon at UFC 257.
Former champ-champ Conor McGregor has returned to old form in recent weeks giving a prediction to his UFC return in the main event with Dustin Poirier.
When speaking to the UFC as part of their weekly program The Countdown, McGregor, who will be making his UFC return after a one-year absence gave his prediction for how his fight with Porier will go.
“I like Dustin. I think he’s a good fighter, He’s even a great fighter. But great is still levels below me. I’ll knock Dustin out inside 60 seconds.”
Predictions are nothing new for the polarizing Irishman. McGregor rose to prominence in the UFC for his skills on the mic and in front of the camera in addition to his ability to brawl inside the Octagon. The 32-year-old has turned his self-confidence and self-assuredness into a persona that attracts fight fans to it like moths to a flame.
Is Conor McGregor really back for good?
Fight fans of all ages will be happy to see that McGregor has not lost his ability to captivate on the mic following his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018, Following that fight, McGregor looked to walk away from the sport and did for two years. Before returning early in 2020 in what was one of the last non-pandemic main events in the UFC.
The question remains, will McGregor be able to live up to the hype he has built around himself. With only one fight in the last year. Albeit a decisive win over Donald Cerrone, the jury is still out. Cerone is certainly a legend. But is nowhere near the competitor he was when he made his name in the UFC nearly 10 years ago. So McGregor has yet to be really tested. To be pushed to that place where he is forced to show up with skill and not just his mouth. Could the main event of UFC 257 be the proving ground to finally quiet his critics once and for all?
