Browns: Baker Mayfield has hilarious comment about being oldest AFC QB remaining

Baker Mayfield cracked a joke about himself and his fellow AFC playoff quarterbacks. 

Baker Mayfield did the impossible and led the Cleveland Browns to a postseason victory. Not only that, but doing so on the road in Pittsburgh was a seemingly impossible task before last weekend.

Mayfield and the Browns are now heading to Kansas City to take on the dominant defending champion Kansas City Chiefs. The winner of that will take on the winner of the Baltimore Ravens vs. Buffalo Bills matchup.

Fans will quickly realize the youth movement at quarterback in the AFC. As it turns out, Mayfield is the oldest remaining and cracked a joke about his old age.

Mayfield is the old man in the AFC

Mayfield is 25 now and a few months older than Mahomes. Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen are both still only 24 years old. This is a huge contrast from the veteran quarterbacks competing for the NFC crown.

It is great to see all these recent first-round quarterbacks competing for a spot in the Super Bowl. Mayfield, Allen, and Jackson all got their first postseason victories this year in what is a statement on the success of that 2018 quarterback class. Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen are the odd guys out, but Darnold should be next if he can get a real coach.

Philip Rivers and Ben Roethlisberger represented the old guard, and the 2004 class, but both fell in the Wild Card Round. Tom Brady leaving New England for Tampa Bay has the AFC embracing a new era with Mahomes leading the way until he and the Chiefs are taken down.

Mayfield has the chance to do that Sunday in what would be the old guy, by a few months, taking control of the AFC. He isn’t a wily veteran just yet, but such a big win would certainly mean he will be in Cleveland for a long time.
