If the 49ers want to break football and pair Kyle Shanahan with Deshaun Watson, this could be how they do it.

Deshaun Watson appears determined to force an exit from the Houston Texans and the San Francisco 49ers have a question mark at quarterback. Niners legend Steve Young has a way both issues can be resolved.

Watson’s unhappiness with the Texans organization has been one of the biggest stories in the NFL in recent weeks, leading to buzz of a blockbuster trade that would shake up the league. Noise to that end continued Saturday with a report in Sports Illustrated claiming Watson “just wants out”.

The 49ers, who can save over $23 million in salary cap space by moving on from oft-injured starter Jimmy Garoppolo after an unconvincing season, according to Spotrac, are seen as a logical landing spot for Watson.

Deshaun Watson rumors: Steve Young has a perfect offer for 49ers

Watson is a top-five quarterback who can take Kyle Shanahan’s offense to the next level. Hall of Fame quarterback Young, speaking on KNBR on Wednesday (h/t 49ers Webzone), outlined what he would pay for the Texans star.

On the ‘Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks Show’, Young said:

"“I would give two first-round picks for generational quarterbacks — these are potential Hall of Famers. Who are the generational quarterbacks playing right now? Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, probably Josh Allen. Like, young guys. Justin Herbert, very quickly. I would not trade Justin Herbert for less than that, even though he’s won four games or something like that. But there’s something about him that really gives me that sense.”"

Asked if he would give up three first-round picks, Young replied: ” Yeah, I would take a lot of risk for Deshaun Watson. I would.”

Young added that the Texans should be sent to the “Caracas League” if the Texans lose Watson, but his trade would theoretically work well for both sides. The Niners would get a quarterback who can take them back to the Super Bowl after last season’s heartbreak and the Texans would get a bounty with which to rebuild.

Such a trade appears a long shot at this stage but conversations about dealing for Watson need to be happening among the 49ers’ key decision-makers.
